An evidence-based EMDR therapy group is being offered to participants who have experienced a similar type of trauma, a major life event, or ongoing traumatic stress. These events could have included chronic illness or domestic violence; personal traumatic experiences, including sexual violence, abuse, neglect, infidelity, or betrayal; professional- and career-impacting experiences such as compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, imposter syndrome, or burnout; or a significant traumatic event in the community such as mass shootings and natural disasters.
The group therapy will be offered in a virtual setting, which will enable the participants to be treated simultaneously; it is a clinically valuable setting that facilitates recovery through shared understanding and mutual support—even without having to talk about the experience directly. A group setting enhances therapeutic outcomes by normalizing the responses and thereby reducing isolation and internalized stigma. This kind of group experience and exposure can foster a protected and empathic environment in which the participants feel validated and understood, and it can enhance therapeutic integration and the processing of life’s challenges. Additionally, the group members benefit from observing adaptive coping strategies in peers and feeling more hopeful and motivated through vicarious recovery. Such shared therapeutic engagement supports both the individual and collective progress and reinforces resilience and psychological integration.
